Gone Fishin'....and Kearsdad Cooks, Part Two

Last weekend, Kearsdad took the girls fishing. His boss/good buddy has a camp on the river somewhere between our house and the horses. Kat, particularly, has been asking to go fishing for a while. You may remember when Banana went hunting with him in January, Kat didn't want to go. But she wanted to fish. While shopping for air mattresses for our mission trip recently (another post about that soon) Kat and Banana used some of their spending money on fishing gear. Saturday they put it to good use. They came home with four catfish and one very tiny brim. Kearsdad told me he would have normally thrown the brim back, but Kat had fished patiently all that time and it was all she caught...except for the catfish she helped Banana reel in. They claimed that one together. Anyway...they had a really good time with their daddy. I used their fishing time to go to Target and Bath and Body Works and Kroger. We all had a nice afternoon.

But the story doesn't end there...at the river. They brought those fish home. Kearsdad cleaned them while the girls watched. I was grossed out. I refused to watch. I just made sure everyone washed REAL good when they came in. The fish were all cleaned and placed in bags and we put them in the freezer. Then on Tuesday, Kearsdad stopped on the way home from work and purchased a few "extras" (a couple of catfish fillets to supplement their catch) and he came home and FRIED them! I mixed up hushpuppy batter and he fried those too. And we had the YUMMIEST dinner I've had in a while! Kearsdad is on a roll. Wonder what he'll cook next? Probably burgers since last week on the mission trip I had 3 boys talk about hamburgers. Actually they ASKED for hamburgers. Told me it was time. Maybe I'll take pictures of the grill next time.

Nevertheless...I am one lucky woman. For many reasons.
