So, I'm driving to church tonight. I'm about halfway across the bridge when my phone rings. I see that it is Kearsdad, and I answer. The conversation that follows goes something like this:
Kearsdad: Hey, DD wants to know if you are bringing him something to eat.
Me: Um. No. We ate lunch late, so I wasn't going to get anything before church.
Kearsdad: Well, he's begging. He really wants something to eat.
Me: Well, why don't you take him to get something?
Kearsdad: Because he has to stay here and run sound for the Praise team to practice. I guess I'll go get him something.
Me (glancing at the clock): Well, I have to drive right past Wendys and it doesn't take too long. Ask him if Wendy's is okay.
Kearsdad (after conferring with the hungry boy): Yes, he says Wendys is fine.
There was some additional conversation as DD placed his order. Then I hung up.
It was only then that I thought..."How did that just happen?"
(For those of you who read this blog but don't know us well, we do not actually have a son. At least not one by birth. Apparently we have several now though.)

Mondays
Mondays are a mixed bag. They hold out the hope of a new week. Mondays are still fresh. At my house, there is nothing scheduled away from home until late in the afternoon on Mondays. We have practically the whole day to get the week started on a good note.
Therein lies the problem. Will the week get started on a good note? Mondays can be frustrating. I think this is a universal problem. Monday represents "getting back in gear". I know that on Mondays I have a hard time getting the girls to focus on school. Their attention span is short. They keep drifting off topic. They want to talk about anything except what they should be doing. If I'm not careful, and if I don't keep things on a tight schedule, Mondays can spiral downward very quickly.
I'm working hard today to keep that from happening. This week, Monday represents something else. This week promises to be very full and very busy. Banana has a performance this weekend. That means she has rehersals all week. Dance every night. Yes, I said every night. Rehersals on top of all of our normal activities. If I think about it too hard, I could start to panic. So I'm not going to think about it too hard. I'm going to set our schedule, and work at staying on it one day at a time.
I'll let you know how that goes...

Horsin' Around Pays Off!
Last night we attended the Awards Banquet for last season's horse shows. We had to drive over an hour to get there, so it was a late night for us...but it was totally worth it! Kat and SUG's girl cleaned up at awards time! We were so proud of them. They worked hard last season, learned a lot in a short amount of time, and did a lot of growing. In the end, we left with 2 first place awards and 4 second place awards between them! That means in their age catagory, in 4 different events, they won all the second places and 2 of the first places!
Kat and Hickory won Second place in Jump, Trail, and Showmanship. They placed 6th in Halter. We were all fairly surprised at the Halter showing...Hickory isn't much of a "Halter" horse. Halter is where they judge just the horse...its appearance...how well built it is, how long it's neck is, how straight it holds its head, etc. Hickory is a "round" horse. That's a nice way of saying he's fat. And his neck is short. So 6th place, about middle of the pack, is really good for him!
SUG's girl did well too...First place in Showmanship and Trail, Second place in Halter, and 6th in Jump. Her horse is very pretty. A cutie with gorgeous blue eyes. But she doesn't like to jump...at all. So again, 6th place was pretty impressive for a horse that won't jump about half the time.
So...we were very proud of our girls last night! New season starts soon! It will be fun to see what's around the corner!
Congratulations Kat and The Thinker!

Yogurt Anyone?
Sammy likes yogurt. I mean he really likes it. Well, he likes ice cream too, but that's another story. Here he is this morning while the girls were eating breakfast.
Normally he is outside this time of morning. He's usually already running around the yard taking care of business, checking on all this stuff, and "talking" to the neighbor's dogs. But this morning Abby, the little yappy dog, wanted to go outside. I wasn't dressed to take her out front, so Sammy came in while she went in the backyard. They don't go out together because Sammy mistakes Abby's running from him for playing and tries to chase her. That doesn't go over well. Inside, they are fine together, but outside...well...not so good.
Anyway, Sammy came in. Notice how tall he is. If he stretches his neck, he can put his chin on the table. Or put his nose in your face. But here is waiting fairly patiently for his Key Lime Pie yogurt.
Finally, his patience paid off. He got to lick the yogurt cup. He had a large time of it. He didn't leave a drop. Not a bit. He enjoyed it completely. He was a very happy puppy.
This one is just because I thought he was so cute. He's waiting for Abby to come back in. It drives him nuts for her to be in "his" yard. He doesn't understand that it's been her yard for 12 years. He thinks it's his. He apparently worries that she is going to mess up his "stuff". You know, he has sticks and bones and balls and all sorts of paraphanalia scattered all around. Or maybe he just wants to go see where she "went". But as soon as she comes back in, he races outside to check everything out. He's a funny little (big) guy.

This Can't Be Happening to Me!
I have the flu. I don't ever get sick. Not really sick. But I have the stinkin' flu. I don't have time to have the flu. I have way too much to do. This is probably what I get for picking on Junebug for getting sick so much. It has come back to haunt me.
And the flu is expensive. I just spent $70 at the pharmacy. And that doesn't even include the Tamiflu I have to go back and get for the girls when the pediatrician office calls me back. Jimmy and the girls are starting the preventative dose because living in the house with a person who has the flu greatly increases the chances of catching it. I am trying to keep my distance and Lysol everything and make everyone wash their hands. I am seriously praying that the flu shots the girls got will keep them healthy.
So I am stuck on the couch. I am very thankful for the two sweet girls who have been extremely helpful and patient. And for my sweet husband who is also helpful and patient. Sigh....
